In this episode we talk about pre/post event planning, promos, registration and session planning.

Dave is going to look at the possibility of getting podsafe entertainment for the night before PodCamp. Dave and Matt are working on creating promos.

We go over the registration page that Joe designed, it is very close to going on-line. We also discussed the Attendee Directory page that will be going live when registration goes live. We’re going to twitter the users who register with the option selected to be included in the Attendee Directory. The twitter message will start with @twitter_name + description twitter style from registration. If you’re following PodCampOhio on Twitter, you’ll know who to follow who’s going to be attending PodCamp Ohio!

We talked about planning sessions. We discussed the idea of reviewing the proposed sessions with a committee or accepting sessions in the order they are received. We decided to stick with accepting session in the order they are received. While brainstorming we took Scott’s idea of having lightning sessions with the idea that the lightning session would be on a specific topic such as Web Site Tools.

We discussed revising the web site, we’ve removed the ‘The Podcasters’ section of the blog roll and created two pages, one for Organizers and Volunteers and another for PodCamp Ohio Fans.

I have to say, last nights meeting was awesome! A lot of new ideas came about during the meeting. One in particular is a mash-up of Scott’s idea of having lighting sessions with the idea that the lightning sessions would be focused on a particular topic.

Here are my initial thoughts. The topics for these lightning sessions will need to attract multiple speakers, a topic that many podcasters and bloggers feel comfortable contributing to the conversation. Topics that come to mind are Web Site Tools (speakers talk for 5 minutes on tools they recommend for their blog/podcast web site) or Hardware Recommendations (speakers talk for 5 minutes on hardware they recommend, briefly how to use, etc…). What other session ideas are there that many podcasters would want to speak about?

Speaking for myself, I don’t plan on speaking at a full 1 hour session, but I would feel conformable speaking for 5 minutes on something specific such as WordPress plugins useful for WordPress web sites.

To see if this would work, please comment on this post with your ideas or thoughts if you would like to be a lightning speaker and/or what topics you would like in a lighting session. If there is enough interest, then we may give it a try with 1-2 sessions.

March 15 Meetup in Cincinnati

PodCamp Ohio Meetup 4 will be taking place with the New Media Cincinnati meetup on Saturday, March 15 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM at the Panera Bread (405 East Kemper Road, Springdale, OH 45246) by Tri-county mall (map). Thanks Daniel for helping us get this meetup coordinated.

For those driving from as far as Cleveland, the new Ohio Ikea‘s grand opening is that weekend. The new Ikea is within 2 exits of the Tri-county mall (Same exit as the Cincinnati Microcenter). That news may make it more worth while to make the 4 hour drive.

In this episode we talk about the registration system, the layout of the facility and how we will plan sessions. The last 15 minutes Scott and I talk about the Habari Blogging application that Scott is a co-developer of and then we talked shop about web servers and PHP.

New Media Cincinnati is having their monthly meetup this coming Saturday, February 9 at 4:30 pm. The meetup is taking place at the Panara Bread (405 E Kemper Rd, Springdale, OH, 45246) by Tri-county Mall. map

In this episode we talk about the registration system, business cards, our budget, attracting session speakers and pre/post event planning. We went on a tangent and talked about wedding planning. Near the end of the show we came up with the idea of twittering each registration to the podcampohio twitter.

Today’s meeting was awesome. It was excellent talking shop with Scott and Mike.

Both Scott and Mike had some great ideas for PodCamp Ohio. Thanks to them, our list of potential sponsors is bigger than ever! Scott has some contacts at Ohio State, which may be interested in participating and potentially sponsoring our event. We also talked about sessions and the event budget. Mike will be attending the Cincinnati New Media meetup this coming weekend where he’ll be distributing our event cards.

Scott is a lead developer for a cutting edge blogging application called Habari. Habari has the potential to rival WordPress. I just took a look at the project code and appears to be very well written.

Mike is the creator of the What’s the Big Idea podcast, a video podcast for entrepreneurs & business professional.

Following the meeting, I visited the hotels in the area as well as Dave and Busters to get some information. I am going to plan on blocking off 50 rooms between the 3 major hotels. I’m also going to see if we can work out a special sponsorship deal with Dave and Busters. I’ll be speaking with the manager tomorrow to get more details.

The third PodCamp Ohio meetup is scheduled for 11 AM today at the Hilliard Panara Bread near ITT Technical Institute. Google Map.

We’ll have PodCamp Ohio promotional business cards to hand out as well as talk about session planning, registration system and seeking out sponsorships.
