Meeting Tonight, May 8 – Session Schedule and ComFest!
Written by angelo on May 8, 2008 – 10:34 am -We are having a Talkshoe meeting tonight, Thursday, May 8th at 8pm.
Mary, Jason, Gabe and I (Angelo) visited ITT this past Friday. We now have details to help us schedule the sessions throughout the day. There are also some other features at the school we saw that will really help make this a great PodCamp!
The Columbus Social Media Cafe is organizing workshops for ComFest. We may be able to help by assisting with the podcasting workshop. Most likely the Podcasting 101 type sessions we already have planned would be the most relevant for the workshop. We will find out what the needs are for these workshops next week.
Agenda items:
- Allocate Session times and rooms available.
- Discuss the venue location (pictures here)
- ComFest!
- Podcasting Guide by Jason
- Next Press Release – Lets focus on the sessions!
- Sponsors update! Blip.tv on-board!
- What ever else comes up

ITT Technical Institute Sponsors PodCamp Ohio
Written by angelo on May 6, 2008 – 1:05 pm -Podcamp Ohio is pleased to feature ITT Technical Institute Hilliard – Columbus as the exclusive venue sponsor for PodCamp Ohio 2008.
The ITT Hilliard – Columbus facilities are perfect for a PodCamp. There are multiple rooms available ranging in seating between 24 and 75 with screen projectors and network access. The location has ample parking and easy to access from the highway. The main lobby and lounge area will provide ample space for attendees to socialize and network between sessions. There are also a number of break out rooms that will be available for podcasters to perform interviews and record podcasts.
Thank you ITT Technical Institute for providing us such a great venue location.

Friday’s Visit to ITT – Great Venue Location
Written by angelo on May 4, 2008 – 12:24 am -Mary, Jason, Gabe and I (Angelo) visited ITT this past Friday to check out the facilities. I must say, ITT has gone above and beyond to help us put on PodCamp Ohio this year. We cannot thank them enough for the opportunity!
Our first task was to assess the rooms available. One of the rooms available to us the entire day is perfect for our First Aid room for podcasters to setup their computers and practice podcasting. While taking pictures of the other rooms, we discovered 5 break out rooms that will be available to us as well. These are perfect rooms for those who may want to have a discussion or record interviews outside of the hallways. We also took some pictures of the lounge area, which will have vending machines and plenty of seating for socializing and networking.
We also inquired about Internet access for the event. Each projector has an ethernet port available for the presenter. In addition, there will be wireless access available as well. The wireless access will most likely be made available via a guest account. We will get more details for this when we’re closer to the event.

Help us Plan for Sessions
Written by mary on May 3, 2008 – 4:58 pm -At the ITT site, we have multiple rooms of different sizes that will make it possible for us to assign rooms of appropriate size for each session.
So now we need your help. There is a survey on Survey Monkey that will help us get an idea of the size of the room we need for each session. It only takes a few minutes to complete and will make it possible for us to create a great PodCamp Event for you. Click Here to take survey
You can go back and change your answers later if you change you mind. There are questions regarding your level of experience with podcasting and blogging. The answers to these questions will give the people leading the sessions an idea of who their audience is. Thank You So Much for your time!

Meeting 21 – PodCamp NYC on our minds
Written by angelo on May 2, 2008 – 7:45 pm -During tonights meeting we discuss PodCamp NYC with Todd Cochrane from the Geek News Central. Todd has attended PodCamp Boston and the more recent PodCamp NYC. Todd gave us some suggestions for scheduling the sessions. Apparently PodCamp NYC did not have an event guide nor event swag bags. Todd also recommended that we have a few organizers actively blog to the Podcamp Ohio blog and post @PodCampOhio twitter messages what is happening throughout the day of the event.
We discussed the initiative to help less fortunate seniors obtain digital TV converter boxes. For more information, please refer to the WOSU Public Media Collaborates to provide DTV converters to Seniors post.
We also discuss the room availability that we received earlier this week from ITT Technical Institute. In a nutshell, we have access to 5+ rooms during the morning and access to all rooms in the school after 1:30 pm. We designated a room to function as a First Aid / Practice Podcasting room.
We finished the night discussing sessions, the event guide, creating help document to hand out to attendees for starting podcasting.
There is a New Media Cincinnati meeting this weekend, if you’re in the Cincinnati area this Saturday and want to attend please RSVP on the New Media Cincinnati Facebook site, www.newmediacincinnati.com.

WOSU Public Media Collaborates to provide DTV converters to Seniors
Written by mary on May 1, 2008 – 9:17 pm -
WOSU Public Media has teamed up with Lifecare Alliance and Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging (COAAA) to provide converter boxes to low-income seniors in central Ohio. Many seniors live on a fixed income and can’t afford cable TV and rely on local news for information. Lifecare Alliance provides Meals on Wheels to seniors and COAAA provides resources and services to seniors in the central Ohio Community.
You can help provide a converter box for a senior by going to the dtv2009.gov web site and requesting coupons for the converter boxes. When you get to the on-line form, check under TV service that *All or some of the TV’s in my house subscribe to one or more pay services.*
This collaborative has special permission to do the project.
When you receive the coupons (it may take up to two months, so time is of the essence) you can drop them off at WOSU Public Media at 2400 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio 43210.
WOSU will purchase the converter boxes and provide them to Lifecare Alliance and COAAA. Their volunteers will distribute the converters and install them. The volunteers will receive training on how to install the boxes and are best suited to this job because they already have a relationship with the people they serve.
These groups are also asking central Ohio bloggers to blog about it and share it with their readers. Don’t forget to announce your new blog post on Twitter. If you are not yet a blogger, share the link to this post in an email to your friends. Lets get the word out to as many central Ohioans as we can. Thanks!
